If you're Gopal Sadagopal, you invest in real estate.  Gopal grew up and completed his undergraduate studies in India before moving to the U.S. to get his M.S. in Structural Engineering.  He started his career in 1979 as a structural engineer, later transitioning to managing IT projects for IBM.  Fun fact:  Gopal helped write IBM's standard methodology for project management.  He started a consulting company that he later sold before starting a software company in 1999.  Gopal sold the company in 2008 and was ready to put his hard-earned money to work.  He wanted consistent, long-term returns, and the answer for Gopal was simple:  Real Estate.  Gopal does still invest in technology companies, but hasn't yet found a match for the predictable formula of investing in apartment complexes.
